Kever Yitro and Mount Arbel
The land of Israel is ancient and overflows with a rich history. Everywhere your feet touches – there is a story. Whether its tales of a military nature, or ones of long, long ago from biblical times, you will not leave empty handed. One of our favourite spots to take people is to Kever Yitro and Mount Arbel. For those who may not know, Yitro was the father-in-law of Moshe Rabbeinu. This site offers a stimulating and unique experience to visitors. The grave of Yitro is located inside the main temple of the Druze. The Druze are a very peaceful and warm people. They help Israel and serve faithfully in the Israeli Army. They consider Jews family, and welcome guests. For any religious visitors, the Rabbeim have ruled that there is no issue with entering the temple to get to the grave of Yitro. Many Rabbeim visit here regularly.
Mount Arbel is an incredibly historic site and is located on the pinnacle of a high cliff on the outskirts of Tiberias. Once you reach the top, your eyes are treated with a vivid panoramic view of the entire Golan, Kinneret, Galilee, Tiberias, Tzfat, and Meron! Talk about a one stop shop! At this site, we will give over the history of the war between the Jews and the Romans. After all, what could bring a story to life more than seeing the land where it all happened?! What is special about Mount Arbel is that you can see caves that were dug into the slopes of the mountain that served as hideouts for Jews from the Greeks and the Romans. Hidden away also lies the remains of an ancient synagogue which can still be seen today, and interestingly enough it housed the only ark that did not face Jerusalem. From here, you will also have the option to take a 1.5 to 2 hour hike down a steep narrow trail – don’t worry it has ladders – to reach the Sea of Galilee. Scattered along this trail are ruins from the periods of the first and second Temples, and some spectacular views of the glittering Kinneret along the way. We encourage you to come experience the rich history of the Galilee in a way where history comes to life right before your eyes!
