Wadi Mujib

Wadi Mujib

Wadi Mujib, whose Biblical name is Nachal Arnon, is a beautiful, deep canyon that comes down all the way from Iraq to the Dead Sea. The section we will hike through, four or five kilometers from the Dead Sea, joins with Wadi Hidan to create a huge, powerful, wide canyon, with a river in the bottom. The water of Wadi Mujib is cold water, and the water of Wadi Hidan is warm, so when they join together they create a very comfortable temperature for swimming and wading. We will hike up the canyon, against the flow of the river, from the Dead Sea towards a huge waterfall. Even though the canyon is wide compared to most of the canyons in Jordan, there are places where the walls are so steep that we cannot see the sky. There are sections where the trail requires wading through the water, and some areas where we have to hold on to ropes to pull ourselves up the canyon against the flow of the water. This is safe, but very exciting.
