Nachal Peres

Nachal Peres

Nachal Peres is one of the nachals in the Southern Judean Desert that gives us a great example of dramatic change of the landscape as the canyon becomes lower very fast within a few kilometers. During the first part of the hike, you will see that it is a flat trail that leads us towards the river path – a beautiful walk that takes you deep into the desert.

Once we reach the Wadi (the Arabic word for stream), we will follow along it down towards the Dead Sea. The first part of the Wadi consists of some big pools that sometimes are full with water from the previous flashflood. This area is named Gavey (the Hebrew word for small pool) Peres, which is only full due to flash floods. We will enjoy the emptiness and silence along with the spectacular landscape around us while we hike down. Then, we will reach the top of a beautiful dry waterfall, a breathtaking moment, where you suddenly see the world open all around you. From there, we will climb up on one side of the canyon and will continue a mile of hiking down to the highway. This is promised to be one of the most beautiful hikes in the Judean Desert!
