Family Time During Chanukah

Family Time During Chanukah

Now that winter is here, the darkest time of the year has also arrived. It is precisely why we increase in light. Chanukah is a time to spend with family, and what better way to do that than head out together to do something out of the box?! The Salt Wonder is a highly unique experience, that is both adventurous and exciting. We begin at the lowest point on earth 1,370 feet below sea level with a steep, uphill hike to the top of a salt mountain using ladders and stairs built directly into the sheer cliffs. While climbing, we get to enjoy the most breathtaking views of the Dead Sea below us, and the Mountains of Jordan just over yonder. Then we rappel down into the belly of the earth! Descending down about 300 feet, we gradually make our way through a chimney that widens as we go. This chimney is made entirely of salt. Feeling a wee bit hungry and forgot to pack salt for your cucumber? No worries! Just reach out and break off a small chunk. The salt crystals are completely natural and are all sorts of hues in color. This is a magical fairy land you are guaranteed to have never seen before. Once gathered at the bottom, our spelunking adventure begins. As we crawl, wiggle, and climb our way through the caves, you’ll notice that unlike limestone caves – the salt crystals grow into extraordinary shapes that glisten and sparkle in many different colors while under the beam of your headlamp! On this fantastic adventure, we will be climbing into huge chambers, but also squeezing through some pretty tight spots. It’s a rare sight that very few humans have seen. There are two short spots where you will need to crawl on your belly. This tour can be done as a day hike, or even as a night/sunrise hike! Whether you choose to hike during the day or night, you are guaranteed to experience the wonder and mystery of the location. During the day, you will see the panoramic desert views. At night, you experience the mystery of hiking by star and moonlight. The Salt Wonder is an incredible site for families to spend some quality time together while venturing into something completely unknown to them. We have had children of all different ages complete this adventure! While it is a challenging site, almost anyone can do this.
